KUALA LUMPUR, Thurs- South East Asia's first viewing wheel dubbed the "Eye on Malaysia" was put through a series of rigorous tests for safety and quality certification in preparation for its grand launch on January 6.

Experts from the German Technical Inspection Authority (TUV) are conducting tests on the wheel and will provide certification to ensure that it adheres to national and international safety standards. "The TUV tests are conducted according to European standards and is recognised by the Malaysian Government," said Mr. Martin Weniger, Specialist Amusement Rides Inspector of TUV Germany.

The "Eye on Malaysia" is our country's first viewing wheel. Standing at a height of 60 metres, it is the largest transportable viewing wheel in South East Asia. There are 42 gondolas-41 regular and 1 VIP gondola complete with leather seats, DVD player, plasma screen, fridge and glass flooring.

Ticket prices for regular gondolas range from RM15 for adults and RM8 for children and concessionaires. There are special packages for those who go in groups.

A grand launch will be held on Jan 6 next year by Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2007. It will be a mark in history as Malaysia will celebrate 50 years of independence.
