Kicking off visit Malaysia Year 2008 in striking style at the eye on Malaysia with the brand-new theatre of the waters show and strange fruit.

MST AD SURIA, the world-class events experts behind the Eye on Malaysia brings two unforgettable shows to Malaysians and Tourists alike to usher in Visit Malaysia Year 2008 at the Eye on Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR, 4 February 2008 (Monday): With the Eye on Malaysia’s tenure and Visit Malaysia Year extended until Merdeka Day 2008, MST AD SURIA, the events specialist behind the Eye on Malaysia, is proud to introduce two new shows in line with their goal of “Putting on A Show For The World until 31st August 2008”. Kicking off the Eye’s VMY 2008 programme is tonight’s debut of the new Theatre of the Waters evening show. Also brought in to perform at the Eye on Malaysia is Strange Fruit, a renowned performance troupe from Melbourne, Australia that specialises in impossible-looking and strikingly choreographed performances on poles.

Pn Widyanty Yusope, Executive Director of MST AD SURIA, said: “MST AD SURIA has selected these shows to give Malaysians and tourists alike a memorable start to Visit Malaysia Year 2008. These world-class shows are part of MST AD SURIA’s ongoing initiative to provide visitors with an enjoyable, value-for-money experience at the Eye on Malaysia. Now that the Eye on Malaysia is a year old, these shows will keep things fresh and exciting for both first-time and repeat visitors.”

When it was launched on 3 February 2007, the Theatre Of The Waters was a world-first for Malaysia – an open air show created from what was then the world’s largest and most powerful water screens. This visually stunning tapestry, staged at four locations around Lake Titiwangsa’s shoreline, presented the people, places and achievements of Malaysia in a unique live format: Each of the four screens of water is a massive 40 metres wide and 15 metres high, and is artistically enhanced with colourful laser beams and by high-powered projectors.

To kick off the New Year at the Eye on Malaysia, MST AD SURIA has created a brand-new storyline with new never-before-seen effects. The new storyline incorporates a magical melding of Malaysia’s nature and culture, moving from stunning natural vistas to scenes from Malaysian life and universalizing the show as it pulls away from Malaysia, Asia and finally the Earth to send viewers into Outer Space. Pn. Widyanty Yusope said: “The twice-nightly Theatre of the Waters has been a hit with evening visitors since its launch. We hope that the new storyline and special effects will continue to add that extra special touch to the Eye of Malaysia experience at night.”

Complementing the Theatre of the Waters show is Strange Fruit, is a unique troupe of performers who dance and act perched atop 4-metre high flexible poles of original design, while the troupe delivers a sublime performance, bending and swaying in the air, captivating and engaging the audience in absolute fascination.

Strange Fruit’s manager, Ms Vicki Kromer said: “Every show in our repertoire is an artistic expression of a universal theme, such as love, conflict, birth, death, work and play. All of them are performed on specially designed 4-metre high bendable poles and typically play to an audience in the round. For our performance at Eye on Malaysia, Strange Fruit will be performing two different sets, alternating between The Spheres and Swoon!” Ms Kromer further explained: “The Spheres take a whimsical look at physics, the miracle of birth and humanity's existential relationship to our planet whereas Swoon! tells a spectacular story of love, loss, joy and freedom up on high.”

Pn Widyanty Yusope said: “The public will be able to enjoy these fantastic performances by Strange Fruit from 24 January 2008 until 17 February 2008, nightly at two show times of 8pm and 9pm. The Theatre of The Waters will showcase its new storyline to the public every evening at 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm from 11 February 2008 until 31 August 2008.” She added: “We at MST AD SURIA are proud to be able to contribute to Visit Malaysia Year 2008 by offering Malaysians as well as tourists a consistently memorable experience when they come to visit the Eye on Malaysia and we look forward to doing so until 31 August 2008.”
